PYRAMID SKY / Echoes of African Brutalism
Built in the early 1970s by Italian architect Rinaldo Olivieri, La Pyramide was conceived as a vertical city, a large commercial hall in the style of an African market, that declined through the 1990s and closed in the early 2000s. Now owned by the Ivorian state, it stands as a powerful emblem of African brutalism and of the ambitions that shaped the Plateau business district. This visual work is built around the ruins of La Pyramide and portraits of Ivorian personalities sharing their memories of the Plateau district, and their visions of the future of Abidjan.
